Referee Bakary Gassama ( Papa) a top african referee Recently suffered some racist chants from fan of Egyptian side Al-Ahly during their match against a south african side Mamelodi sundowns during Caf champions league quarterfinal match.
Al Ahly fans chanted abuse at the Gambian referee, referring to him as a slave at the end of the game. Al Ahly’s 1-nil victory in the second leg CAF Champions League was not enough to overturn a 5-0 deficit from the first leg in South Africa.
The fans were not satisfy by the decisions of Papa Gassama in the game and out of frustration lashed out on him with racist chants. But The three times African Referee of the Year responded with pure professionalism and calmness throughout the game. The Confederation of African Football have not yet officially reacted to the supposed abuse so far.
