DERBY DELIGHT FOR REAL DE BANJUL AS THEY NARROWLY DEFEAT HAWKS FOOTBALL CLUB

Current table toppers Real De Banjul narrowly defeated Hawks Football Club by a goal to nil on sunday 19th May 2019 at the Independence Stadium in bakau in week 23 of division one league football.

Real de banjul kicked off brilliantly with a well organised inter changes of passes dominating possession and trying to get a early opener but Hawks fc defenders were up the task, foiling every attack by their arch rivals Real fc.

Hawks could not find their feet in early part of the game and were struggling to put up few passes together in the first 10 mins but gradually they gained their confidence. Real first chance came in the 15th mins as James Gomez heads Pa Modou Sohna’s cross against the post.

Real were awarded a penalty in the 20th mins as Pa Modou Sohna was tripped by the keeper. Abdoulie Bah gave Real the deserved lead as he stepped up for the spot-kick, which he executed perfectly. Few mins before the break Hawks fc had some moments which they felt short to take advantage off. They went to the break 1 nil in favour of real de banjul.

After the break their was not much to say as both teams trend with caution sizing each other waiting the other to slip up, while the ball went from one end to the other without no clear chances at goal.

Real came close to doubling their lead in the 66th mins as Mustapha Jallow heads over the cross bar inside the area. Hawks were close to equalising in the 80th mins through Eliyasi Sanyang as he placed a shot straight into the goalie as another chance went begging.

Real de banjul’s victory sees them at the top with 39 points after 23 games, leading the top with a single point as second place Armed Forces fc are with 38 points and a game in hand to be played. Third place Brikama United are on 37 points after 23 games played.

The Khaki Boys ( Armed forces fc) will take on Banjul United in their next encounter while real de banjul will host third place Brikama United the (Satay Baa Boys). 3 more games for each team as the league reaches its climax .
