“This football tournament was named after Therese Ayo Gomez, one of the founding members of DYC now CDYC. She was a youth and a parishioner of St. Kizito in Bakoteh. She was pro active and dedicated. But got to served only for a year. Before we got to know her better, she passed away, on may 1st 1998, just 22. She lived a very short life. We (DYC/CDYC) later discussed that we should organize an even that will bring the youths together in honour of her, and we chose football. Because nothing does better, than to socialize through football.
So that’s when we decided to name the Inter-Parish football now Inter-Deanery football tournament to her, Late Therese Ayo Gomez Memorial Deanery tournament”.
