QUEEN SCORPIONS TO WRANGLE ETHIOPIA’S DINKNESH IN A DOUBLE HEADER FRIENDLY GAMES

The Darling queen scorpions will take on Ethiopia female national team in a double header friendly match slated for the 15th and 18th June at the Independence Stadium.

The Ethiopia female national team are nicknamed Lucy and Dinknesh in reference to the Australopithecus fossil. The Ethiopian national team made its debut in September 2002 in the 2002 African Championship’s qualifiers, beating Uganda to progress to the final tournament, where it ended last in its group, only grasping a tie with Mali. It subsequently played the 2003 All-Africa Games, losing all three games.

The queen scorpions will be preparing to take part in next year’s Africa Women’s Cup of nations qualifiers for Congo Brazzaville hopefully, while Ethiopia will be using the double header as preparation for their second round qualification matches against Cameroon next month for Tokyo 2020.

According to Gambia Women’s Football League facebook page, Gambia and Rivers Angels F.C duo – Isatou Jallow and skipper Penda Bah, are due to arrive in Banjul on Sunday 9th June from Nigeria ahead of the friendlies.

The federation also wade into, saying “The purpose of this meeting is to hand over the task of this test games to the Technical Staff to continue building the National Team. We want to reap the benefits of what have been put into the junior teams to the senior level.

Coach Mariama Sowe will be in charge while Abdoulie Bojang will be her assistant. Coach Mariama Sowe is set to release her full list of players for the double header by Wednesday as the Queen Scorpions will open camp early in the week.
