The west coast region boys, Brikama United and Gambia Armed Forces over the weekend battled at the Independence stadium in Bakau on Sunday the 9th of June 2019.
Brikama United defeat Gambia Armed Forces 2-1 in the final decider of the Gambia Football federation division one league following a tight competition compared to 2018 season.
The game was a very entertaining one as both sides put up a good performance in the match despite Gambia Armed forces fc enjoying a large share of ball possession but it only took the staaba boys’’ Brikama united ‘’15 minutes to break the deadlock thanks Adam Manneh’s strike that put his side ahead. Gambia Armed Forces, also responded back with a goal through Sulayman Sillah after capitalising from a poor defending error by the Brikama United Back four after 27 minutes.
After that equalizer, Gambia Armed Forces took control of possession tormenting the defense line of Brikama united but the ‘’staaba boys’’ where able enough to keep up to the task fending off every attack. On 52 minutes, Gambia Armed Forces defender Saikou Jatta brought down Ebrima Badjie in the box leaving the Referee to point straight to the spot kick.
Which was later step up by Momodou Bojang converting the resulting penalty by sending the outstanding goalkeeper Baka Ceesay to a wrong Direction to make it 2-1. Brikama United last won the league in 2012 under the leadership of Ensa Sambou during his tenure with the club and in 2016 they beat fellow rivals in Town Bombada football in the FF cup thanks a superb strike from Sainey Bojang.
Though history can still tell that, Brikama United has finally broken the chain of a 7 years league trophy drought, under the leadership of Modoulamin Nyassi.
Thanks to goals from Adama Manneh and Momodou Bojang alias ’’ major ‘’ increasing his goal tally to 8 in 2018-19 league season. Brikama United will now represent the country in the continental club championship after been crown Champions of 2018-19 Gambia Football Federation Division One League ,it end 2-1 for Brikama United.
