Modou Lamin Nyassi, the head coach of Brikama United has said his side target is to book a place in the Total CAF Club Champions League group stages.
The Brikama born tactician Nyassi, revealed his side target in an interview he had with our reporter “We set a target for ourselves and our aims and objectives is to at least play beyond the CAF Championship preliminary rounds”. Nyassi said. ” We want to make history.
No Gambian club has ever made it to the group stages of any sort of CAF Club Championship, and we want to be the first Gambian club to qualify to the group stages.
” Nyassi further revealed. Confederation of African Football (CAF) has disclosed in their official website that, teams that will make it in to the group stages will be giving an amount of five hundred and fifty thousand dollars (s 550, 000) while group winners and runners up will earn an amount of six hundred and fifty thousand dollars (s 650, 000) respectively.
“Satayba boys” Brikama United, have earn the right to represent The Gambia in the CAF champions League preliminary rounds after winning The Gambia Football Federation Division 1 league Championship.
Brikama United finished ahead of heavy weights like Real de Banjul and Gambia Armed Forces in closely contested league in which they finished a point ahead of the eventual runners up, Real de Banjul with 51 points.
Brikama United are drawn against Moroccan heavy weights, Raja Casablanca. The first leg is scheduled to take place in Banjul in the weekend of August 9-11.
