The Gambian tactician said Liberian clubs continued to struggle on the international scene due to the mindset of the players.
LISCR FC Head Coach Tapha Manneh believes Liberian football will not move forward, if clubs and players keep measuring everything at Liberia’s level, noting football is not for Liberia; rather it is a global sport.
“We measure everything in Liberia. Whatever you want to do you say this is Liberia, we don’t measure ourselves outside,” Manneh told reporters after LISCR FC were booted out of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup by Togolese side, Maranatha FC on Sunday at the ATS.
He added: “Clubs! We need to change our mind set, and stop this is Liberia. Football is not for Liberia, it is for the whole world, what is happening in China is the same happening in Liberia, so you have to measure yourself with outsiders, so that when you go out you won’t have problem”.
Manneh said he has observed that when Liberian players play outside, they are usually uncomfortable on and off the ball as compare to when they are playing at home.
“When we play outside, you feel it from the players that they are not comfortable. They don’t play like the way they play here. That is one of the issues we have,” he said.
He further lamented: “When it comes to football as far as the league is concerned, if you win as champions, your next level is international. This has to be practiced within; you measure yourself out side,”
Manneh further added that he has noticed that Liberian usually associate anything bad with the country, something he said is having a negative impact on the growth of football in particular.
“Anything bad, they associate it with Liberia. We have to change our mindset as a people,” he said.
The LSICR FC head Coach has as well encouraged Liberian Clubs to import foreign players into the league in order bring more competition.
