The Gambia U-17 national team wrapped up its participation in the WAFU-A AFCON qualifiers by securing the bronze medal on Monday 4th November 2024

with a hard fought 6-5 post match penalty shootout victory over Guinea Bissau in the third and fourth place playoffs. The victory secured the Baby Scorpions bronze medal on Monday 4th November 2024.

During the course of their four matches in the competition, the Baby Scorpions won two “Man of the Match awards” with Francis Gomez and Mbemba Jammeh clinching the accolades.

By virtue of their extraordinary show of gamespriit and sportsmanship, the Baby Scorpions were also named the most disciplined team of the tournament and rewarded with the “fair play award”

 

Despite missing out on a place in the AFCON, the Baby Scorpions made a huge impression in the tournament with a narrow 3-2 defeat to Mali

before claiming victory over Guinea Bissau to finish third behind champions Senegal and runners Up Mali.
The Gambian team is expected to leave for Banjul on Tuesday.
Young Gambian shot stopper Mbemba Jammeh was the hero as he put of a man-of-the-match performance to help the Baby Scorpions secure bronze at the WAFU A AFCON qualifiers.
The youngstar made three saves from the spot as Yahya Manneh’s charges secured a 6-5 post-match penalty shootout defeat of Guinea Bissau following a goalless in the bronze medal match played in Senegal today.
